PennDOT announced that construction will begin Monday, January 13, on a sinkhole remediation project on U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) in Upper Merion Township to ensure a safe and efficient long-term transportation system for the traveling public.
Beginning, Monday, January 13, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
• Monday, January 13, through Friday, January 31, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a weekday right lane closure is scheduled on southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) between Saulin Boulevard/Prince Frederick Boulevard and Ivy Lane for sidewalk reconstruction.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.
Due to the nature of construction, northbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) is anticipated to close 24/7 in mid-February. When the northbound side reopens, work will shift to southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) with a southbound 24/7 closure. During each closure, motorists will be directed to use Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road.
Remediation of sinkholes on U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard/Prince Frederick Boulevard were deemed necessary for a long-term solution following reoccurring sinkholes and emergency repairs resulting in traffic disruptions along both corridors.
