Morton Street to Close in Lower Chichester Township
for Drainage Improvements
Work Part of PennDOT's $19.9 Million Project to Replace
Route 452 Bridge over Amtrak and SEPTA
King of Prussia, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that Morton Street will be closed and detoured weekdays between Green Street and Route 452 (Market Street) in Lower Chichester Township, Delaware County, beginning Wednesday, February 15, for drainage improvements. Morton Street will be closed weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through Thursday, March 2. Traffic will be detoured through the SEPTA parking lot.
The work is part of PennDOT's $19.9 million project to replace the Route 452 (Market Street) bridge over Amtrak and SEPTA railroad tracks in Marcus Hook Borough and Lower Chichester Township, Delaware County.
PennDOT's contractor will work over the next two and a half years to replace the structurally-deficient, 17-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge with a new four-span continuous prestressed box beam bridge. The new bridge will be 343 feet long and 40 feet wide and will be built on a new alignment and widened to meet current design standards. Crews will also resurface and regrade new approaches to the bridge.
The bridge was built in 1925 and rehabilitated in 1995. It is 656 feet long and 32 feet wide. It carries an average of 8,700 vehicles a day.
Route 452 (Market Street) will remain open during construction except for two 28-day closures during later stages of construction. The project is scheduled to finish in September 2019.
Road-Con, Inc., of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $19,947,624 project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
