The National Weather Service-Upcoming Winter Weather Events

The National Weather Service, Mt Holly has issued a forecast for two rounds of wintry precipitation this week. Attached is a one slide summary titled "Most Likely Ice Glaze" showing expected ice accumulations for the Mt Holly coverage area. Chester County is not currently forecast to receive any ice accumulations.

The first event, we will see precipitation overspread the Mt. Holly coverage area late Monday night (close to or after midnight) and continue through Tuesday. Freezing rain is expected to occur in areas to the North and West of Chester County. At this time there are no expected ice accumulations for Chester County from this event.

Chester County Forecasted Conditions First Event:

•             Anticipated Timing: Late Monday night (close to or after midnight) and continue through Tuesday

•             Temperatures: Expected to remain above freezing for this event.

•             Precipitation: Rain expected through Tuesday afternoon

•             Active watches & warnings: Chester County is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook 

The second event will move into the area late Wednesday night into Thursday. A wintry mix of rain and snow is expected at this time, mainly areas to the south and east of Chester County. Low confidence in snowfall amounts at this time but some impacts may be felt during the morning commute on Thursday to areas south and east of the I-95 corridor.

Chester County Forecasted Conditions Second Event:

•             Anticipated Timing: Late Wednesday night into Thursday

•             Temperatures: Wednesday high of 58 and low of 29 Wednesday night

•             Precipitation: Rain expected in the evening with precipitation turning to a mixture of rain and snow overnight between 1am and 5am. Impacts may be felt during the morning commute.

•             Active watches & warnings: Chester County is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook 

An updated briefing from the National Weather Service will be sent by 4 PM Monday afternoon. The Watch Officer will distribute the briefing once it has been reviewed and evaluated for updates and changes to Chester County.
