Route 320 (Montgomery Avenue) will be closed and detoured between Old Gulph

Road and Spring Mill Road in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, on
Sunday, September 24, through Thursday, September 28, from 8:00 PM to 5:00
AM,
for beam replacement on the overpass carrying northbound Interstate 476
over
Route 320 (Montgomery Avenue), the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation
(PennDOT) announced today.

During construction, Route 320 (Montgomery Avenue) motorists will be
detoured
over Old Gulph Road and Spring Mill Road. Local access will be maintained
up to
the construction zone.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the
construction areas because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule
is
dependent on the weather.

The underside of the northbound I-476 bridge over Route 320 (Montgomery
Avenue)
was struck by a large truck on July 22, which resulted in damage to the
concrete fascia beam. Following the incident, the bridge was categorized as

structurally deficient.

As part of the work, crews will remove and replace the damaged pre-stressed

concrete fascia beam and adjacent portion of deck and barrier; install new
bearing pads; replace deck joints at the abutments; and remove and
reinstall
barrier-mounted sound wall. Construction on the bridge is scheduled to be
completed in late November.

Built in 1974, the one-span pre-stressed concrete-I beam bridge is 110 feet

long and 56 feet wide. The structure carries about 61,000 vehicles a day.

The work on the bridge carrying northbound I-476 over Route 320 (Montgomery

Avenue) is part of PennDOT's $6.8 million project to rehabilitate/replace
five
structurally-deficient bridges in Bucks and Montgomery counties, three
structurally-deficient culverts in Bucks County, and to stabilize a stream
embankment at a bridge in Bucks County.

Loftus Construction, Inc., of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor
on
the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds through Act 89,

Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

Work on the entire project is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.
