Route 82 (Union Street) Bridge Closed to Pedestrians in Kennett Square Borough, Chester County
King of Prussia, PA – The sidewalk on the bridge carrying Route 82 (Union Street) over East Penn Railroad in Kennett Square Borough, Chester County is closed indefinitely due to concrete deterioration to the sidewalk, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The bridge will remain open to traffic.
During the closure, pedestrians will be directed to use Center Street or Broad Street to cross the railroad tracks. The sidewalk will remain closed until PennDOT bridge engineers can examine the deterioration and develop a plan to rehabilitate or replace the sidewalk.
The single-span steel girder bridge was originally built in 1932 and reconstructed in 1982. The structure, currently listed in fair condition, is 64 feet long, 25 feet wide and carries an average of 8,702 vehicles a day.
