ReadyDNC Daily Digest: July 25, 2016 Weather • Excessive Heat Warning in effect until 6 p.m. tonight. • Today: Partly Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. • Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 78. West wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. • The end of the Excessive Heat Watch does not mean the end to the heat. Temperatures in the 90's and high Heat Index Values forecast through Friday. • Know the lightning safety 30/30 rule: If the time between when you see the flash and hear the thunder is 30 seconds or less, the lightning is close enough to hit you. If you haven't already, seek shelter immediately. Public Safety • With the forecast calling for sun and a high near 99 mid-day, please bring plenty of liquids if you are outdoors. Avoid prolonged exposure to sun if you can. • Be a good neighbor: check on yours, especially the more vulnerable population. • If you are at FDR Park and need medical attention, there are 2 EMS tents located on the North and South end of the park. • Call 9-1-1 with emergencies. Call 3-1-1 with non-emergencies. 311 has extended hours, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Thursday.
Traffic • PennDOT announced Sunday that lane restrictions will remain in effect through the DNC for portions of I-95 and I-676. This is so Pennsylvania State Police can enforce the five-ton truck ban. Remains in effect through July 29th – call 215-686-SNOW if your car is towed. • Pattison Avenue closed from 20th to 7th Sts and Broad St from packer to the Terminal. • Parking restricted in the area surrounding the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Consider SEPTA to travel to Center City destinations. • SEPTA created a special webpage to address possible delays and detours http://www.septa.org/events/dncphilly.html • Public assembly and marches scheduled throughout the day are expected to impact traffic including rush hour traffic. Marches primarily occur on South Broad St to the Stadium Complex and East Market St to Independence Hall. Marches will impact traffic in Center City and South Philadelphia.
