U.S. 422 Night Lane Closures Next Week in Valley Forge Area

U.S. 422 motorists will encounter overnight lane closures next week for
roadwork between the Route 363 (Trooper Road) and First Avenue interchanges
in
Montgomery and Chester Counties, respectively, the Pennsylvania Department
of
Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

The overnight construction on U.S. 422 is part of the $97.4 million project
to
build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry motorists over the
Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and
Schuylkill
River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships.
The
project includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge
Road)
and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge

Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route
363
(Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges.

Construction began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.

Eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 will be reduced from two lanes to one
Monday,
July 18, through Thursday, July 21, for the placement of concrete barriers
and
line painting. The lane closure on U.S. 422 east will be in place each
night
from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. The westbound lane closure
will
occur from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning.

The contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract. The project is financed with 80 percent federal and
20
percent state funds.
