I-95 Night Travel Restrictions between Cottman Avenue and Betsy Ross Bridge Interchanges

I-95 Night Travel Restrictions between Cottman Avenue and Betsy Ross Bridge
Interchanges

12/9/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

A series of nighttime travel restrictions are scheduled through next week
on
Interstate 95 for construction at the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Betsy
Ross
Bridge interchanges in Philadelphia, where crews are preparing to remove
the
work zone and open I-95 to four lanes in each direction, the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Crews at the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange project area will work
at
night next week to inspect the highway drainage pipes and then begin
replacing
the concrete barriers with construction barrels beginning on the southbound

side of I-95 and then moving to the northbound side.

Once barriers are removed, restricted traffic will be shifted through a
series
of temporary traffic patterns as crews work to eradicate temporary traffic
lines and paint permanent lines before opening I-95 to four through lanes
in
each direction with shoulders between the Cottman Avenue and Bridge Street
interchanges later in December. I-95 had been three through lanes in each
direction between these interchanges prior to construction.

The upcoming schedule of lane closures at Cottman Avenue is:

• Tuesday, December 13, to Sunday, December 18, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the

following morning, alternating northbound and southbound single and double
lane
closures will be in place on I-95 between the Academy Road and Bridge
Street
interchanges for pipe inspection, removal of construction barriers, and
eradication of temporary lane markings and painting of permanent lane
markings
in the work zone;

• Tuesday, December 13, to Sunday, December 18, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the

following morning, the Princeton Avenue on-ramp to I-95 north will be
closed
periodically for construction activities. Motorists will be detoured north
on
State Road, then left on Linden Avenue and right on the ramp to I-95 north
at
the Academy Road Interchange. Drivers also may access I-95 north by going
north
on State Road, then right on Bleigh Avenue and right on Milnor Street to
the
spur ramp to I-95 north; and

• Tuesday, December 13, to Sunday, December 18, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the

following morning, the I-95 north off-ramp to Cottman Avenue (Route 73)
will be
closed periodically for construction activities. Motorists will be detoured

north on I-95 to the exit at the Academy Road Interchange, then right on
Linden
Avenue, and right on State Road to Cottman Avenue (Route 73).

Also scheduled on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia next week:

• Monday, December 12, through Friday, December 16, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM
the
following morning, I-95 north and south will be reduced from three lanes to
two
lanes at the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange for construction
of
ramp support piers in the median; and

• Tuesday, December 13, from 12:01 AM to 5:00 AM, I-95 south traffic will
be
stopped periodically in 15 minute intervals between the Academy Road and
Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange for removal of an overhead sign
structure. If Tuesday morning's scheduled activity is postponed due to
weather,
the sign removal will take place early Saturday, December 17, from 12:01 AM
to
5:00 AM.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel on I-95 through the work

zones. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The work is associated with contracts underway to improve the ramp system
at
the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange and to rebuild and
improve
the Cottman Avenue Interchange and reconstruct and widen more than one mile
of
I-95 adjoining the interchange.
