U.S. 422 Lane Closures and 15-Minute Stoppages Scheduled Next Week in Chester County

U.S. 422 Lane Closures and 15-Minute Stoppages Scheduled Next Week in
Chester County

12/1/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Lane closures and 15-minute stoppages are planned next week on eastbound
and
westbound U.S. 422 between the U.S. 202 and First Avenue interchanges in
Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, for overhead sign and conduit
installations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said

today.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, December 5, from 7:00 PM to 11:59 PM, the left lane will close on

eastbound U.S. 422 between the First Avenue and U.S. 202 interchanges, for
overhead sign installation;

• Monday, December 5, from 9:00 PM to 11:59 PM, the right lane will close
on
westbound U.S. 422 between the U.S. 202 and First Avenue interchanges, for
overhead sign installation;

• Tuesday, December 6, from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM, there will be periodic
15-minute traffic stoppages in one or both directions on U.S. 422 between
the
U.S. 202 and First Avenue interchanges, to erect an overhead sign; and

• Monday, December 5, through Friday, December 8, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM,
the
right lane and shoulder will close on eastbound and westbound U.S. 422
between
the U.S. 202 and First Avenue interchanges, for conduit installation.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on U.S. 422
during
this operation because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's work schedule
is
dependent on the weather.

The operations are part of PennDOT's $97.4 million project to build new,
wider
structures to improve travel on U.S. 422 at its crossings over the
Schuylkill
River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and the Schuylkill
River
Trail. The project also includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23
(Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading
Route
23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving
ramps at
the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue

interchanges.

PennDOT began construction on this transportation improvement project in
February 2016 and the project is scheduled to finish in May 2020. Without
the
passage of Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan, construction on this

project would not have begun before 2018.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20
percent
state funds.
