Plank Road, Otts Road Scheduled to Close Beginning Next Week for Safety
Improvement Project in Montgomery County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced
that
Plank Road and Otts Road in Perkiomen Township, Montgomery County, are
scheduled to close beginning next week as part of an $11.2 million safety
improvement project.
The work schedule is:
• Tuesday, May 2, through October 2017, Plank Road will be closed and
detoured
between Route 29 (Gravel Pike) and Route 73 (Skippack Pike). Plank Road
motorists will be detoured over Route 29 (Gravel Pike), Haldeman Road and
Route
73 (Skippack Pike); and
• Tuesday, May 2, through May 2019, Otts Road will be closed and detoured
between Miller Road and Route 29 (Gravel Pike). Otts Road motorists will be
detoured over Route 29 (Gravel Pike), Bridge Street, Wartman Road, Township
Line Road, Seitz Road and Meyers Road.
In addition to the two road closures, there will be additional lane
restrictions next week in the area as part of the project. The work
schedule is:
• Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 5, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM
to
5:00 AM, Route 29 (Gravel Pike) will be reduced to one lane between Miller
Road
and Harrison Road in Perkiomen Township, for utility relocation;
• Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 5, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Meyers
Road
will be reduced to one lane between Seitz Road and Miller Road in Perkiomen
Township, for excavation and grading; and
• Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 5, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Route 73
(Skippack Pike) will be restricted to one lane between Squirrel Hill Road
and
Perkiomen Creek Road in Skippack Township, for stormwater pipe
installation.
During construction, all traffic will be controlled by flagging. Motorists
are
advised to allow extra time when traveling through the construction areas
because slowdowns may occur.
The work is part of PennDOT's project to improve travel and safety at the
intersection of Route 29 (Gravel Pike) at Plank Road/Otts Road; the
intersection of Route 73 (Skippack Pike) at Plank Road; and the Meyers
Road,
Seitz Road and Township Line Road intersection in Skippack, Perkiomen and
Limerick Townships, Montgomery County.
The improvements include widening the intersection of Route 73 (Skippack
Pike)
and Plank Road to include left turn lanes on both roads; relocating Otts
Road
to align with Plank Road at Route 29 (Gravel Pike) to create a four-leg
intersection; adding left turn lanes on Route 29 (Gravel Pike) at Plank
Road/Otts Road; adding left turn lanes on Plank Road and Otts Road at Route
29
(Gravel Pike); realigning Meyers Road to intersect with Township Line Road;
realigning Seitz Road to form a T-intersection with Meyers Road; installing
new
traffic signals along the project corridor; and improving the roadway
alignment
in three locations.
H & K Group, Inc., of Skippack, Montgomery County, is the general
contractor on
the $11,292,416 contract that financed with 100 percent state funds. The
project is expected to finish in spring 2019.
