PennDOT to Reopen Remington Road Bridge in Lower Merion Township
10/20/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) this afternoon will
reopen the township-owned Remington Road bridge over the west branch of the
Indian Creek in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.
PennDOT began construction in July to replace the deteriorated bridge deck
and
beams. The single-span, prestressed adjacent box beam bridge was built in
1955.
It is 22 feet long and 58 feet wide. It carried an average of 10,000
vehicles a
day prior to its closure. The bridge had a 28-ton weight limit before
construction. The weight restriction has been removed.
The improvement of the Remington Road bridge is part of PennDOT's $2.4
million
project to rehabilitate five township-owned, structurally deficient bridges
in
Montgomery County. This local bridge improvement project was enabled
through
Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.
J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$2,684,206 project. The rehabilitation of the five bridges is expected to
be
completed in late 2016. The project is financed with 100 percent state
funds.
