Northbound Richmond Street to Close Next Week for Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA — Northbound Richmond Street will be closed from Cambria Street to Ann Street in Philadelphia on Monday, January 14, through Friday, January 18, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

During the weekday closure, northbound Richmond Street motorists will be detoured onto Allen Street, a temporary road that runs north along the northbound side of Interstate 95 beginning near Cambria Street, to Allegheny Avenue.

Richmond Street is currently closed to southbound traffic between East Westmoreland Street and Ann Street. Southbound Richmond Street traffic will continue to use the detour that is in place that directs motorists to East Westmoreland Street, west on Allegheny Avenue, south on Aramingo Avenue and east on Lehigh Avenue to access Richmond Street.

During the closure, crews will be installing an electrical duct bank under the center of Richmond Street that will be used for SEPTA's Route 15 Trolley. The duct bank installation will proceed north several blocks at-a-time on Richmond Street to SEPTA's Westmoreland Loop terminal, which also is being reconstructed over the coming months. Tracks and catenary poles for the trolley will be installed as Richmond Street is reconstructed beginning this spring.

The work is part of the $32.1 million project to rebuild and improve Richmond Street between Ann Street and East Westmoreland Street. The Richmond Street project is the first stage in the larger reconstruction of I-95 between Allegheny Avenue and Frankford Creek that is projected to begin in 2024.
