Oxford Valley Road Nighttime Lane Closures Scheduled Next Week for Overhead
Bridge Rehabilitation in Bucks County
6/28/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA
Nighttime lane closures are scheduled on Oxford Valley Road between Cabot
Boulevard and Big Oak Road in Falls, Middletown and Lower Makefield
townships,
Bucks County, on Wednesday, July 5, through Friday, July 7, from 9:00 PM to
5:00 AM the following morning, for rehabilitation of the bridge carrying
Oxford
Valley Road over U.S. 1, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
(PennDOT) announced today.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the
construction area because slowdowns will occur. The work schedule is
weather
dependent.
Crews began construction on November 14, 2016, to rehabilitate the Oxford
Valley Road bridge. The structure remains open to traffic while the
contractor
repairs damage sustained when the bridge was struck by an oversized truck
on
June 29, 2015. Crews are replacing two steel beams and repairing three
additional beams. Construction on the bridge is scheduled to finish in late
July or early August.
The three-span, steel-I beam bridge was built in 1972. It is 167 feet long
and
90 feet wide. The structure carries 31,000 vehicles a day.
The work is part of PennDOT's $11,766,000 project to rehabilitate four
structurally deficient bridges in Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and
Philadelphia
counties, and replace six structurally deficient culverts in Bucks, Chester
and
Delaware counties.
Over the last several months, PennDOT completed and reopened the bridge
carrying Torresdale Avenue over Academy Road in Philadelphia, the Edenton
Road
bridge over Rattlesnake Run in Upper Oxford Township, Chester County and
the
Route 663 (Layfield Road) bridge over Perkiomen Creek in Upper Hanover
Township, Montgomery County.
PennDOT's contractor also will replace deteriorated culverts at the
following
locations: State Road bridge over a branch of Cooks Creek in Springfield
Township, Bucks County; Rocky Ridge Road over a branch of Tohickon Creek,
Richland Township, Bucks County; White Horse Road over a branch of
Pickering
Creek in Schuylkill Township, Chester County; Route 282 (Creek Road) over a
branch of Brandywine Creek in East Brandywine Township, Chester County;
Route
82 (Doe Run Road) in East Fallowfield Township, Chester County; and MacDade
Boulevard over the Muckinipattis Creek in Glenolden Borough, Delaware
County.
Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor
on
this project that is financed with 100 percent state funds through Act 89,
Pennsylvania's transportation plan.
Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in August 2018.
