U.S. 422 Westbound Lane Closures Next Week in Valley Forge Area

A left lane closure is scheduled on westbound U.S. 422 between the U.S. 202

(Dekalb Pike) and Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) interchanges in Tredyffrin
Township, Chester County, and Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, on
Tuesday, June 20, and Wednesday, June 21, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, for the

construction of a foundation for a sign structure, the Pennsylvania
Department
of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work is part of a $73.3 million project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S.
422
and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern

railroad tracks.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
areas.
The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S.
422
structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk
Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River
bridge
to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the
Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning
ramps at
the U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and
realigning
the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage;
erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future
Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and
signs.

Construction on the entire project is scheduled to finish in October 2018.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.
