NWS Weather Briefing 3/12/2017 Evening

Attached is a weather briefing from the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ regarding a coastal storm that is expected to affect the region Monday night (March 13th) through Wednesday morning (March 15th)  

Hazards with this storm include accumulating snow, coastal flooding, and strong winds. At the current time we are forecasted for 12-18 inches of snow over a majority of the county with 8-12 inches for the far Southeastern area and along the immediate Delaware County border.

Key Updates:

  • ·         Increased snow amounts for most the of the county to 12-18 inches
  • ·        Winter Storm Warning in effect from 3/13/2017 8:00 PM until 03/14/2017 6:00 PM
  • ·        There is increased confidence for signification snowfall across much of Eastern PA including Chester County
  • ·        Heaviest precipitation and strongest winds to occur late Monday night into Tuesday morning

Confidence in snow amounts: Medium I95 North and West

Chester County Forecasted Conditions:

·        Anticipated Timing: Snow starting Monday night mainly after midnight, snow will continue Monday Night and during the day on Tuesday.  Snow is forecasted mainly before 7 pm on Tuesday and will taper off Tuesday night into Wednesday.  

·        Temperatures: 

  • Monday high of 35 and a low of 26
  • Tuesday high of 30 and a low of 19
  • Wednesday high of 30 and a low of 14

·        Wind: Monday night from Northeast 6 – 13 mph, Tuesday winds North 16 - 21 mph and Tuesday night Northwest 9 – 13 mph

·        Precipitation: Snow starting Monday night mainly after midnight, snow will continue during the day on Tuesday.  Snow is forecasted main before 7 pm on Tuesday but there will remain a chance of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday. 

·        Active watches & warnings: Winter Storm Warning March 13th, 8:00 PM until March 14th 6:00 PM

Impacts:

  • ·        Accumulating snow Monday night into Tuesday night.
  • ·        There could be major impacts to travel especially late Monday night during the day Tuesday.
  • ·        Snow and wind could cause down power lines and possible widespread power outages
  • ·        The heavy snow will make many roads impassable.
  • ·        Strong winds will lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Additional briefings will be sent if weather conditions or impacts show changes for Chester County.
