Winter Storm Update 3/13/17 5:00pm

Good evening,  The Chester County Department of Emergency Services is monitoring the National Weather Service for the impending snow storm.  We want to keep you informed; this is what we know now:

  • A Blizzard Warning has been issued for Chester County commencing at 8:00pm on Monday 3/13 and is expected to expire on Tuesday 3/14 at 6:00pm; this is a result of winds gust expected to exceed the 35mph threshold in the county.
  • Snow amounts for the southern portion of Chester County is showing a range 8-12 inches
  • Snow amount for the middle portion of Chester County is showing a range of 12-18 inches
  • Snow amount for the northern portion of Chester County is showing 18-24 inches
  • Heaviest precipitation and strongest winds to occur late Monday night into Tuesday afternoon

·        Anticipated Timing: Snow starting tonight mainly after 11 PM, snow will continue during the day on Tuesday.  Snow is forecasted mainly before 7 pm on Tuesday and will taper off Tuesday night into Wednesday

 

As of 5:00pm today all Chester County public and private Schools are closed.

 

Travel Restrictions:  Governor Wolf has announced the following travel restrictions:

               Beginning at 10pm tonight the following restrictions will be in place on all interstates and expressways:

                              45 mph speed limit

                              Ban on tandem truck trailers, empty trailers, towed trailers, buses, recreational vehicles and motorcycles.

               These restrictions will be in place on Interstates 70, 76, 78, 80, 81, 83, 84, 283, 176, 180, 476, 380

The Turnpike will have the same restrictions beginning at 10pm tonight from the Bedford Interchange east to NJ and on the entire Northeast Extension.

 

Here are some things to think about:

Get prepared now:

               -Fill up your car with gas

               -Check your flashlights and have extra batteries on hand

               -Have warm clothes, blankets, etc., on hand in case the power goes out

               -Remember – Don't call 9-1-1 if your power goes out.  Call your electric company

               -Bring your pets inside

-Shoveling is a high intensity exercise, so those who are not used to regular exercise should work slowly and be cautious. Take smaller scoops of snow, keeping them light and small.

               -If you use a snow blower, follow the manufacturers guidelines.  Do Not use your hands to clear snow from the machine.

-If you need to use a generator, follow the manufacturers guidelines and be sure the generator is away from windows and doors.  Do Not operate the generator inside.
