PennDOT to Rehabilitate Springfield Street and Alden Road bridges in Bucks
County

6/9/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Construction is scheduled to begin on two township-owned bridges in Bucks
County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today
announced. The work is part of PennDOT's $2.3 million project to
rehabilitate
five structurally deficient bridges - four township owned and one county
owned
- in Bucks County.

Crews will rehabilitate the Springfield Street bridge over SEPTA tracks in
Springfield Township beginning Monday, June 13, and the Alden Avenue bridge

over Rock Run in Falls Township starting Monday, June 20.

Springfield Street will be closed and detoured between Route 309 and East
Station Road through September 2016 while crews replace the deteriorated
bridge
deck and beams. Motorists will be detoured over Route 309 and East Station
Road.

Alden Road will be closed and detoured between Stevens Road and Valley Road

through September 2016 for the replacement of the deteriorated bridge deck
and
beams. Motorists will follow the posted detour of Stevens Road, Gordon
Road,
and Valley Road.

Local access will be maintained up to the construction zones. Motorists are

advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas.

The Springfield Street bridge is a single-span, prestressed adjacent box
beam
bridge built in 1985. It is 72 feet long and 45 feet wide. It carries 150
vehicles a day.

The Alden Road bridge is a single-span, prestressed adjacent box beam
bridge
built in 1962. It is 25 feet long and 32 feet wide. It carries 1,360
vehicles a
day.

This local bridge improvement project was enabled through Act 89,
Pennsylvania's transportation plan.

In addition to the Springfield Street and Alden Road bridges, construction
on
the county-owned Kansas Road bridge over Little Neshaminy Creek in
Warrington
Township was completed Thursday, June 9. Construction on the township-owned

Willow Road bridge over Ironworks Creek in Northampton Township began on
March
28, 2016, and work on the Moyer Road bridge over Pleasant Spring Creek in
Hilltown Township began April 18, 2016.

H&K Group, Inc., of Skippack, Montgomery County, is the general contractor
on
the $2,353,598 project. The rehabilitation of the five bridges is expected
to
be completed in late 2016. The project is financed with 100 percent state
funds.
