Travel Restrictions Scheduled Next Week on Several State Highways for
Bridge Inspections in Philadelphia

Travel restrictions are scheduled next week on several state highways,
including U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and the George C. Platt Memorial
Bridge
(Route 291), in Philadelphia for bridge inspections, the Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The work schedule is:
• Monday, February 12, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a right lane closure is
scheduled on southbound Whitaker Avenue between Pennway Street and East
Loudon
Street;
• Monday, February 12, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, a right lane closure is
scheduled on northbound Whitaker Avenue between East Loudon Street and
Pennway
Street;
• Monday, February 12, and Tuesday, February 13, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
lane
closures are scheduled on Walnut Lane between Wissahickon Avenue and Morris
Street;
• Tuesday, February 13, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, lane closures are
scheduled in
both directions on the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge (Route 291);
• Tuesday, February 13, and Wednesday, February 14, from 9:00 AM to 3:00
PM, a
right lane closure is scheduled on the ramp from the Betsy Ross Bridge to
southbound Interstate 95;
• Thursday, February 15, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures are
scheduled
in both directions on the inner lanes of U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard)
between
Bridge Street and Large Street; and
• Friday, February 16, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled
in
both directions on the inner lanes of U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) between
Tyson Avenue and Borbeck Avenue/Ryan Avenue.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The inspections are part of PennDOT's program to inspect bridges at least
once
every two years to ensure the safety and overall condition of the
structures.
