Overnight Lane Closures Scheduled on U.S. 422 and Route 23 in Valley Forge
Area

5/12/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

Overnight travel restrictions are scheduled on U.S. 422 and Route 23
(Valley
Forge Road) in Montgomery County for construction that is part of a $97.4
million transportation improvement project, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

PennDOT's contractor began work in February 2016 to build new, wider
bridges to
improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River,
Norfolk
Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West
Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships. The project also
includes the improvement of U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge
Road)
and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; the improvement of Route 23
(Valley
Forge Road); and ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley
Forge
Road) and First Avenue interchanges. The project is scheduled to finish in
May
2020.

U.S. 422 will continue to be reduced from two lanes to one in both
directions
between First Avenue and Route 363 (Trooper Road) on Sunday through
Thursday
nights through late May for shoulder reconstruction and paving, and
drainage
installation. The nighttime restriction will be in place Sunday, May 15,
through Thursday, May, 19, and then each following week through the end of
May.
The eastbound U.S. 422 lane closure will be in effect each work night from
7:00
PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, and the westbound lane closure will
occur
from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning.

On Route 23 (Valley Forge Road), lane closures will be in place between
Moore
Road and North Gulph Road in Upper Merion Township on Sunday, May 15,
through
Thursday, May 19, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for paving
and
median removal. In addition, lane closures will occur Monday, May 16,
through
Friday, May 20, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for utility line installation.

A lane closure also will be in place on northbound North Gulph Road near
the
intersection of Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) on Monday, May 16, through
Friday,
May 20, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for conduit installation.

The contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract. The project is financed with 80 percent federal and
20
percent state funds. Construction is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
