PennDOT to Reopen Orvilla Road Bridge in Hatfield Township

PennDOT to Reopen Orvilla Road Bridge in Hatfield Township

5/12/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The bridge carrying Orvilla Road over the West Branch of Neshaminy Creek in

Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, will reopen to traffic late Friday
morning, May 13, following the rehabilitation of the two-span bridge, the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.

Crews worked the past six months to strengthen and restore the stone
masonry
arch bridge that closed on March 16, 2015, due to severe structural
deterioration. The contractor also reconstructed the parapets with
reinforced
concrete; resurfaced the roadway approaches and bridge roadway; and
installed
new guiderail, signs, and pavement markings.

The Orvilla Road bridge is no longer categorized as structurally deficient
following the improvements made under this $976,058 project.

Built in 1874, the bridge is 46 feet long and 24 feet wide. The structure
carried 7,259 vehicles a day prior to its closure last spring.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, was the general contractor on
the
project, which was financed with 100 percent state funds.
