NWS Weather Briefing 1/21/2017 Evening

Emergency Management Partners and Stakeholders:

Attached is the latest briefing package from the Nation Weather Service, Mt Holy for a coastal storm this Sunday through Monday night. Rainfall amounts look a little bit lower than indicated this morning with rainfall totals in the 1-2 inch range with localized amounts up to 3 inches. Strong winds and tidal flooding are still expected, and these slides have been updated. A high wind watch is still in effect for Eastern New Jersey as well. Accumulations of any wintry precipitation are still expected to be minimal and only over the southern Poconos. 

Key Updates: A strong offshore storm will bring heavy rain, strong winds, coastal flooding, and at least some potential winter weather to the extreme north and west Sunday and Monday, some rain will linger into Tuesday. Rainfall amounts across Chester County are showing lower than predicted this morning and the potential for stronger wind gust for Chester County has been added to the Advisory.

Chester County Forecasted Conditions:

•              Anticipated Timing:  Sunday afternoon into Monday night

•              Northeast Winds Sunday 3 - 8 mph increasing to 14 - 22 Sunday night out of the East.  Monday winds from the East 17 - 26 mph with gust to 38 mph

•              Precipitation: 1 inches of rain is now expected across the county

•              Active watches & warnings: Chester County is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Dense Fog Advisory

·        Periods of heavy rain Sunday night through Monday night could result in poor drainage flooding
·        Easterly wind gust of 40 – 50 mph are possible Monday
·        Dense fog advisory in effect from 10 pm this evening to 10  am Sunday

Impacts:

·                 The rain and wind could cause possible power outages, at this time due to uncertainty it is hard to forecast any river or stream flooding.

Recommended Preparedness Actions:

•              Follow the NWS and local weather forecasts for the latest changes, updates, and information.

DES Actions:

•             We will continue to monitor this event and provide additional information as it becomes available.

•              The Watch Officer is available through the 9-1-1 Operations Center by calling 610-344-5100

•              The EOC is currently not expected to be activated for this event.
