PennDOT: Rt 452 bridge construction in Marcus Hook and Lower Chichester

This is a message from Delco Alert PennDOT to Begin Construction on $19.9 Million Project to Replace Route 452 Bridge over Amtrak and SEPTA King of Prussia, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that preliminary construction will begin Monday, January 23, on a $19.9 million project to replace the Route 452 bridge over Amtrak and SEPTA railroad tracks in Marcus Hook Borough and Lower Chichester Township, Delaware County.   Crews will begin preliminary operations by relocating storm and sanitary sewer lines. The contractor will also make off-site repairs to a municipal parking lot during the winter months.   PennDOT's contractor will work over the next two and half years to replace the structurally-deficient, 17-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge with a new four-span, continuous prestressed box beam bridge. The new bridge will be 343 feet long and 40 feet wide and will be built on a new alignment and widened to meet current design standards. Crews will also resurface and regrade new approaches to the bridge.   The bridge was built in 1925 and rehabilitated in 1995. It is 656 feet long and 32 feet wide. It carries an average of 8,700 vehicles a day.   Route 452 (Market Street) will remain open during construction except for two 28-day closures during later stages of construction.
