NWS Weather Briefing 1/22/2017 Morning

Attached is the latest briefing package from the Nation Weather Service, Mt Holy for a coastal storm this Sunday through Tuesday midday. Notable changes with this briefing package include the issuance of a High Wind Warnings for eastern NJ and Wind Advisories farther west along the I-95 corridor from late tonight through Monday afternoon and evening. Coastal Flood Advisories were also issued for Monday morning along the NJ and DE coasts as well as along the DE Bay. Snow/sleet and ice amounts were increased for the southern Poconos and far NW NJ.

Key Updates: A strong offshore storm will bring heavy rain, strong winds, coastal flooding, and at least some potential winter weather to the extreme north and west Sunday and Monday, some rain will linger into Tuesday. Rainfall amounts for central to western Chester County have been lowered to less than 1 inch over the course of the storm.  Wind Advisory area has increased bringing it to the border of Chester County in the East.

Chester County Forecasted Conditions:

•              Anticipated Timing:  Sunday afternoon into Tuesday Midday

•              Northeast Winds Sunday 5 - 7 mph increasing to 16 - 21 Sunday night out of the East.  Monday winds from the East 20 - 23 mph with gust to 39 mphMonday night winds return to the Northeast at 13 -18 mph with gust to 32 mph.  Tuesday wind remains from the Northeast at 11 – 15 mph.

•              Precipitation: 1/2 – 1 inch of rain is anticipated for the central to western part of the county.  1 – 1 ½ inches could be seen in the eastern portion of the county

•              Active watches & warnings: Chester County is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Dense Fog Advisory

·        Periods of heavy rain Sunday night through Monday night could result in poor drainage flooding
·        Easterly wind gust up to 45 mph are possible Monday
·        Dense fog advisory in effect until 10 am Sunday

Impacts:

·                 The rain and wind could cause possible power outages.

Recommended Preparedness Actions:

•              Follow the NWS and local weather forecasts for the latest changes, updates, and information.

DES Actions:

•             We will continue to monitor this event and provide additional information as it becomes available.

•              The Watch Officer is available through the 9-1-1 Operations Center by calling 610-344-5100

•              The EOC is currently not expected to be activated for this event.
